Education & Experience

  1. Have at least full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 level or GS-09 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors)

  2. Have successfully completed a master's degree or two (2) full years of graduate level study leading to a master's degree or LL.B., J.D., in a field that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform this work. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Or Have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. NOTE: Applicants must submit a copy of transcripts.
  3. Have an equivalent combination of specialized experience (as in A above) and education (as in B above) that, when prorated, combine to meet the qualification requirements for this position. If your education is currently described in quarter hours, convert them to semester hours by multiplying by 2/3rds. To combine education and experience, first take the number of semester hours or equivalent earned towards a graduate degree, in excess of 18 semester hours, and divide by 18 semester hours or equivalent. Then take the number of months experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. Only education beyond the second year is creditable to meet this standard. Or Have an equivalent combination of specialized experience and education, as described above. When combining education with experience, first determine your total qualifying education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; then determine the your experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; finally, add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify this grade level.


Job Responsibility:

  1. Define data need parameters for specific geospatial projects and/or assignments.

  2. Design, develop, and manage geospatial databases, including conversion of digital data in various formats, and the conversion of thematic source maps from analog to digital form through the use of appropriate hardware and software.
  3. Conduct research to locate and obtain information from existing databases. Compile geographic data from a variety of sources.
  4. Represent the local office manager when working with other internal and external organizations on geospatial matters.
  5. Assist in the integration of Enterprise GIS with long- and short-term planning and management activities.
