Qualification:

Education & Experience

  1. Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree OR

  2. Graduation from a four-year college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program. A Master's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of the B. S. engineering degree. OR
  3. Must have obtained Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program OR
  4. A Master's degree in Engineering will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.
  5. Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience
  6. Received a passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam
  7. Experience in the utility industry and understanding and knowledge of the transmission system.
  8. Demonstrated ability to be creative, self-starter, flexible to accommodate changing parameters, innovative, and able to develop creative solutions to complex problems.
  9. Demonstrated ability to participate in a variety of meetings to represent the company’s transmission operations function
  10. Good written and oral communication skills


Job Responsibility:

  1. Provide engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of transmission system problems by conducting engineering and related studies

  2. Study the effects of planned transmission and generation outages on the Duke Energy transmission system, develop switching plans for both planned and un-planned generation and transmission outages, and develop operating guides to mitigate contingency overload issues for planned or forced outages (coordinated with the Regional Transmission Organization)
  3. Perform assessments, both internally and externally (RF/PJM) originated, of the transmission system using PSSE
  4. Monitor the transmission system via the energy management system to gather real-time system information and ensure proper modeling of the transmission system.
  5. Conduct post-mortem analysis to investigate events that occur on the transmission system, resolve operating issues with wholesale, retail and municipal customers, provide support during storms and operating emergencies, and support mitigation efforts for transmission line reliability/load ability issues making recommendations concerning operational/reinforcement strategies as needed.
  6. Determine proper transformer tap settings for new and existing transformers, voltage schedules for generators, and voltage settings for new and existing transmission capacitor banks.
  7. Work closely with other departments throughout the company to obtain information, determine costs, budget projects, and provide various technical studies.
  8. Develops various tools using PI, EMS, Excel, etc. for System Operations in order to increase situational awareness of the status of the transmission system.
  9. Supports various PJM operating committees and working groups providing input and feedback regarding DEOK positions
  10. Develops Operating Plans/Procedures and acts as SME/Standard Owner of compliance standards for Duke Energy Midwest including participating in face to face MRRE and PJM Audits.
  11. Provides emergency support during storms and operating emergencies as needed.
  12. Provides training assistance to System Operators as needed.
