Education & Experience

1. Have either completed your qualification in Engineering (Civil or Environmental or equivalent) or will be working towards completion.
2. Willingness to get your boots dirty - this is role is more than just sitting behind a desk, you will be in the field learning from experienced operational staff
3. Work on major projects that are beneficial to our community
4. Support innovation and process improvement ensuring Lismore remains a Regional Leader in this area.
5. Work closely with experienced operational staff, engineers, coordinators and managers.
6. Experienced in data analysis: you will have a proven ability to collect, collate and analyse information and data from a wide variety of sources and prepare and present reports verbally and in writing to diverse stakeholders.
7. An expert communicator: you will have high level communication skills and the ability to negotiate, motivate, influence and gain cooperation and assistance from a range of stakeholders both internal and external.
8. Organised, reliable & efficient: you work well to deadlines and pride yourself on ensuring your work is thorough and consistent.
9. Autonomous: although you will be working as part of a team who is there to support and train you, you will also be able to work without direct supervision.
10. Willing to learn: you will have a positive attitude and will take on and seek out feedback. You will be flexible and take ownership of any tasks assigned to you.

Job Responsibility:

1. You’ll be working to assist Senior Engineers deliver road construction and other minor civil works projects.
2. You will aid in providing engineering and construction support for our Roads Maintenance and Construction crews. Capital Works Projects may include complete road realignments up to $6mil (clearing, drainage, kerb & gutter, landscaping, earthworks, pavement and asphalt) and concrete and steel bridge construction. Lismore Council operates 5 x Construction Crews made up of 8 x staff members (operators and labourers) and 6 x Maintenance Crews made up of 3 to 5 staff members. Lismore City Council also has a Roads Maintenance Contract with Transport for NSW managing the Bruxner Highway and Bangalow Road within the LGA. This contract also includes at least 1 x construction project per year.
3. It is expected that you will spend part of your time on construction sites gaining practical experience.
