Education & Experience
BS/MS/PhD Degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science or Coatings is preferred. Serious consideration will be given to degreed candidates in other science related fields with applicable experience.
- Must have at least 2 years of practical R&D experience
- Prior experience with color development/pigment technologies in coatings is preferred
- Should have a fundamental understanding of coatings technology, including knowledge of resins, additives and pigments used in exterior (and interior) coating systems
- Ability to develop and/or implement coating characterization testing methods, calibrate & run instrumentation and interpret results
- Requires metal substrate, forming, shipping, installation knowledge and have intrinsic knowledge of coil, metal chemistry and pretreatments
- Microsoft Office required, knowledge of VBA programing a plus
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), problem solving capabilities and the ability to work both independently and as a part of a team
- Willingness and ability to travel 5-10%
Job Responsibility:
Interact with others in R&D, Sales and Marketing to validate new technologies in order to provide growth opportunities in traditional and adjacent markets
- Work as an active member of cross functional project teams with Manufacturing, Product Management, IT and Sales
- Organize objectives, set milestones and deliver results against aggressive timelines
- Direct internal quality investigations; ensuring the results are translated in a meaningful way for internal and external distribution
- Apply statistical methods to investigate problems and analyze results
- Improve existing formulas and processes to streamline work across technical and operational platforms
- Provide SPC analysis to improve process capabilities supporting ‘Right First Time’ manufacturing
- Provide samples, product risk assessment and technology documentation for coating and color development
